#ArabWomenInspire 2021

Gharam Faraj

My name is Gharam Faraj, and I am an American Palestinian Muslim woman. I was born and raised in Cleveland, where I began my college career at Cleveland State University. I moved to Orlando in 2008 where I received my Bachelor’s in Health Science from the University of Central Florida.

I am the Owner and Founder of Sharp Fabrics, an online retailer and design consultant for high-fashion couture fabrics and gowns.  Sharp Fabrics has been featured in award winning designs.

As a young girl, I watched my father work hard in his pursuit of the American dream, as he slowly built a successful business brick-by-brick. His work ethic empowered and motivated my entrepreneurial journey.  However, it was my mother that inspired my creative eye, love for high-fashion, and my passion for design.  For years I watched my mother turn her visions into reality for not just herself, but for my sisters and I. So, when I was 16 years old, I began designing my own gowns.

Shopping for modest one-of-a-kind gowns has proven to be difficult. Often times when garments are purchased in stores, they require alterations and are still not perfect. This is where my skill and craft come in. I am a one stop shop for couture gowns.

Two years ago, I decided to take a leap of faith in myself and my skill, and created Sharp Fabrics. I started my own fabric retail business, where I sell exquisite fabrics and design couture pieces. My goal is simple: to empower women to feel comfortable and confident in their own designs. I do not cater to a specific demographic of women, rather I believe ALL women deserve to feel beautiful in their own skin. Beauty is relative and it all starts with the fabric.

I have three beautiful boys that are the center of my life, and they push me every day to be the best version of myself.  As a single mother, I understand the importance of feeling empowered and motivated. I am currently working towards my MBA. I wish to inspire all women that are looking for a sign to take that leap such as I did, this is it, you can do it. You are strong enough to overcome any obstacle that comes your way, and you will see your true potential and worth.
